It is that time of year again, Talent show auditions are coming soon. Grab a hold of that microphone and bring all the tricks up your sleeves, Auditions are April 2 - 13. Sign up at the office, or check out the talent show group on Facebook.

A seminar by Dr. Daniel Russell
Abstract: How well DO people search on Google? Although popular opinion is that "everyone is above average," that obviously can't be true. The truth is that self-perceptions of search expertise are often wildly over-estimated and that people, on average, actually use only a fraction of the potential of Google. They both don't know much of what's possible, and don't understand where internet search capabilities are headed. Since the rate of change and improvements isn't slowing down, in this talk I'll examine where we are, and where we're headed, and conclude with some heuristics for teaching research skills in the years ahead.

It's that time of year again! The Chilliwack School Gardens Program is gearing up for another great growing season. Registration forms have been updated and are now available on our website [http://garden.sd33.bc.ca].
Registration packages and promotional posters have also be sent to every school. If they haven't arrived yet, they should be there very soon. Students whom were in the Garden Program last year should have received a 2012 Registration Form in the mail (their home address). Please make the materials available to students. If you have any staff members or parent volunteers whom have sponsored the program in the past, please forward this email to them. If any staff, parents or students have questions about the program, please invite them to contact me.

PINK SHIRT DAY

Optimist Essay Contest
Alyssa Zucchet and Bianca Rillera have placed first and second respectively in the Optimist Essay Contest. The students had to write on the topic "How My Positive Outlook Benefits My Community." Alyssa won $100, Bianca won $50, plus a victory breakfast, commemorative medal and engraved pen.  Mrs. Glenda Standeven coordinated the contest.

Indoor Soccer

The soccer world shook at it's foundations today as the young up and coming CSS students (aka Canada) defeated the much experienced Teachers (aka Brazil). The game seemed completely out of Canada's reach in the early minutes of play as Brazil burst out of the gates with three quick goals. Pele Ferris said in an interview "we might have been a little over confident after we scored the third goal. We went away from our attacking style of play and played more defensive." Sitting back allowed the young Canadian team to form some attack and they answered back with two quick goals. Ronaldinho Klettke and Kaka Lumsden formed most of Brazil's attack and the Italian-Brazilian Kafu Mauro with Roberto Mummery sealing up most of the defensive play. Ronaldo Templeton and Romario Hipwell seemed to be the team's midfield and covered most of the floor tracking the attacking Canadian squad. The third Canadian goal marked a turning point for the tired and deflated Brazilian side. Ronaldo Templeton said after the match "of course we expected to win... we are Brazil... whenever you step on to the court in your country's colours you expect to win not only for yourselves but for your country".

Nobody is able to explain why or how the young Canadian team was able to score the last minute goal and seal the victory for Canada. Analyst from all over Europe and South America only assume that if Brazil had it's full line-up (and were able to take a few more breaks) the game surely would have been different. Brazil was without the trio of Garrincha Willers, Zico Fehlauer, and Leonidas Campbell. Surely these players would have made a difference as they are among the best to ever wear the Brazilian jersey.

The Brazilian management made a statement today as they fired their goal keeper Dida Dartnell. "We had to make a statement if we want Brazilian soccer to continue to stay on top," said a front office spokesperson. Dida will be playing his soccer in Mexico (Vedder) next season.

Next week the students are challenging the teachers in table tennis... if you want to represent the teachers please let me know. By teachers I mean anyone working in the building - all are welcome.
