METAL FABRICATION & MACHINING 11
MFM 11 (4 credits) – Applied Skills

Prerequisite: None

Course Content: Instruction in, and development of, hand and machine tool skills and an introduction to welding processes through completion of a series of mandatory projects. Safety awareness is stressed.

Evaluation: Mastery of techniques and knowledge and quality of finished projects.

Note: Successful completion of this course is required for enrollment in all other metalwork, machining, fabrication and welding courses.

METAL FABRICATION & MACHINING 12
MFM 12 (4 credits) – Applied Skills

Prerequisite: Metal Fabrication and Machining 11

Course Content: Continued instruction in, and development of, hand and machine tool skills and welding processes. Student may choose to participate in major class projects or may elect to produce a complete set of plans for a project of choice. Safety awareness is stressed.

Evaluation: Mastery of techniques and knowledge and quality of finished projects.

ACE IT WELDING

Prerequi  site  : To be eligible for acceptance students must successfully complete:
• Metal Fabrication & Machining 11 with C+ minimum final letter grade
• The application form
• A Math and Reading comprehension entrance exam
• A formal interview with the instructor

Course Requirement: Students are required to obtain their own personal safety and protective gear, as per the course list, as well as a complete set of course books.

Course Structure: Ace-IT Welding is divided into four separate courses; Ace-IT Welding 1, 2, 3 & 4. These courses may be taken one or more per semester, or all in one semester, as scheduling allows.

Course Content: This group of courses consists of half of the post-secondary C-level Welding trades training program. The student will learn the various skills, processes and knowledge used in industry to cut, join and form metal. These will be built upon a solid foundation of safety, math, measurement, metallurgy and material handling.

Good attendance, attitudes and work ethic are essential and are required for success. Self motivation will be necessary to complete the required assignments and homework.

Course Outcome: Successful completion of all four Ace-IT Welding courses allows the student to apply for acceptance into the second half of the UFV C-level welding program.

Students who successfully complete Metal Fabrication and Machining 11 and 12 may apply to the instructor to take advanced Metal and Fabrication Courses in the areas of:

• Advanced Fabrication
•Advanced Machining
• Sheet Metal
• ACE IT Welding

Students require instructor permission and should schedule themselves in the appropriate number of MFM 12 blocks to accommodate their advanced courses.
